Prepare for September

Whoa. It has been two months since our last update. Much has happened since then...

1) The Glendon committee has successfully enrolled their sponsored student, Mr. Jean Marie, at York University. Housing has been arranged in preparation for his arrival, and the Glendon residence association as offered to donate certain necessities. While Kamal Farmaly is on vacation, John Wires and Tammy Maclean will be handling inquiries regarding the Glendon committee.

2) Mr. Simon Kuany is doing his best to enjoy summer while balancing two jobs - a part-time contract with the Centre of Refugee Studies at York, and an evening job. He is currently living with friends in downtown Toronto, and continues to play soccer regularly. He recently completed an application for OSAP.

3) The Keele Sponsoring Group has elected a new President and is gradually filling out the other positions. Mable Ou Yang of Atkinson will be replacing Carl Yuan as President. Eric Leung will be the Vice-President, Constance Boakye is the Refugee Services Director, and Tulika Singh is the Communications & Media Relations Director.

Keele has also enrolled their 2006 - 2007 sponsored student into Information Technology at Atkinson based on his preferences. They are currently seeking potential off-campus housing around York University. Please contact wusc@yorku.ca if you know of such an opportunity!

Both sponsoring groups are preparing items to put into a Welcome Package for their sponsored students. The welcome package contains photocopies of their acceptance letters, information about their faculty, public transit maps, York University general information, photographs of local committee executives, and welcome letters.

There is much more to be done, so stay tuned.
